The preparation process for this item, which is made from native veta vera grass, also called elephant grass, is labor-intensive. The grass must be collected, divided, and hand-rolled before a proficient weaver from our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana begins work. This grass, which grows wild in Ghana and yields beautifully balanced and robust basketry, is sustainable in the purest sense.
